Henry Kissinger is a former American National Security Advisor and Secretary of State during the administrations of President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford. Kissinger is a controversial figure. His deep involvement in American foreign policy in the Vietnam era, the Cold War, and in U.S. support for dictatorial regimes, including those in Iran and Chile (put in power by an American-supported coup).
Even after leaving office, Kissinger continued to act as an elder statesman for Republican and conservative leaders, including both Presidents Bush. Henry Kissinger has met multiple times with President Trump. In this quote from NPR, Kissinger is giving his opinion that Shia Iran is a regional power whose influence is spreading throughout the Middle East, to the detriment of American interests in the region.
