Welcome to World Biography, a section of the Historyguy.com site featuring biographical files on individuals who impact world politics, culture, business, education and other arenas of life, both in the present day and from the past. William Blum--Political writer critical of American foreign policy and of the Bush Administration. Author of the controversial book "Rogue State."

Susan Boyle--Scottish media sensation whose singing voice took the world by storm in the Spring of 2009.

Mathew Brady-- The "Father of Photojournalism" whose photos of Civil War battlefields brought the horrors of war home to civilians on the homefront.

L. Paul Bremer--President Bush's Envoy to Iraq as head of the Provisional Coalition Authority in 2003 and 2004.

Orson Scott Card--Science Fiction writer, political columnist, and self-styled ornery American.

Richard "Dick" Cheney--46th Vice-President of the United States.

Joe Cimperman--Cleveland City Councilman who is running for the Congressional seat for Ohio's 10th District, which is currently held by Dennis Kucinich.

Hillary Rodham Clinton--Currently a Senator representing New York State, Hillary Clinton is a former First Lady and is a candidate for President in the 2008 election.

Johnny Cochran--Legal icon and attorney for such luminaries as O.J. Simpson, Michael Jackson and other controversial figures.

George Armstrong Custer--American Army General, veteran of the Civil War. Best known for his "Last Stand," the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Tom DeLay--House Majority Leader and conservative Republican. Currently under indictment in Texas and, for now, the former Majority Leader.

Patti Solis Doyle--Former Campaign Manager for Hillary Clinton

Arthur Duncan--American tap dancer who gained fame as a regular performer on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Lorenzo de Zavala--First Vice-President of the Republic of Texas.

Frederick Douglass-- The famous orator, author, and champion against slavery.

Clancy Eccles--Jamaican reggae and ska artist who was politically active in support of socialist Prime Minister Michael Manley.

William Roscoe Estep --An American Baptist historian and professor known as an expert on the Anabaptist Movement.

John Francis "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald- Mayor of Boston, and Grandfather of President Kennedy and Senators Robert and Ted Kennedy, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and Great-Grandfather of California First Lady Maria Shriver, former Maryland Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, and Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

President Gerald R. Ford--The 38th President of the United States.

Milton Friedman--Nobel Prize winning economist, presidential advisor, and a leader in the monetary school of economics and an advocate for personal freedom and liberty.

David Geffen--Hollywood music and movie producer and well known policial fundraiser for Democratic candidates.

The Reverend Billy Graham--Religious cultural icon and spiritual advisor to every American president since Dwight Eisenhower.

Lisa Guerrero--LA Times sports writer, former NFL Cheerleader, and model.

Rudolph "Rudy" Giuliani--American politician currently for the Republican nomination for the office of President of the United States. He is best known as the Mayor of New York City during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Whitney Houston--American singer and actress.

Mike Huckabee--Former Governor of Arkansas, and a failed candidate for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination.

Robert Kardashian--Friend and attorney of O.J. Simpson and the father of celebrity Kim Kardashian.

 

Dennis J. Kucinich--American politician who ran for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Formerly known as the "Boy Mayor of Cleveland" Kucinich is now the Congressional Representative for Ohio's 10th District.

General Robert E. Lee-- Army general for the South in the American Civil War.

Timothy McVeigh--Domestic American terrorist responsible for the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995.

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab--Prominent Nigerian Banker and the father of suspected Northwest Airlines Flight 253 bomber, Abdul Farouk Umar Mutallab

Thomas Nast-American political cartoonist.

John Negroponte--American diplomat nominated to serve as the first Director of National Intelligence; a position created to help fight the War on Terror.

Willie Nelson--American Country Music recording artist and social activist.

Barack Obama--President of the United States. elected on Nov. 4, 2008

Sarah Palin--First female governor of Alaska, and the first woman to run for Vice-President on a Republican ticket.

Sean Parnell--Succeeded Sarah Palin as the Governor of Alaska.

General George Patton--Famed American army general of World War Two.

Henry M. Paulson--U.S. Treasury Secretary during the George W. Bush Adminsitration. Best known for his role in the mortgage bailout crisis of 2008.

Don Pendleton-American author and the creator of the vigilante anti-hero Mack Bolan, featured in the Exectioner paperback novel series.

Billy Preston--Grammy-winning keyboardist known as the "Fifth Beatle," and as an unofficial member of the Rolling Stones.

Dave Reichert--Republican Congressman from Washington State's 8th District.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry--Star Trek actress and wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.

The Rolling Stones--Famous British rock band known as "The World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band."

Dr. Benjamin Rush-- Signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Constitutional Convention, noted physician and ardent supporter for the abolition of slavery.

Julius Schwartz--Comic book editor whose career greatly influenced the comics industry.

Ariel Sharon-Israeli military leader and Prime Minister.

Casey Sheehan--U.S. Army soldier who died in the Iraq War. His death caused his mother, Cindy Sheehan, to launch an anti-war demonstration which gained nation-wide attention.

Cindy Sheehan--The mother of Casey Sheehan. Her son's death led her to begin an anti-war demonstration outside of President Bush's ranch in the summer of 2005.

Maria Shriver--Former award-winning television journalist, best-selling author, current First Lady of California, niece to President John F. Kennedy, and daughter of Vice-Presidential candidate Sargent Shriver.

Britney Spears- Pop music icon, singer, actress, and star.

Jamie Lynn Spears--Television star and sister to Britney Spears.

Ian "Stu" Stewart--Rolling Stones founding member, pianist and road manager, who is considered "The Sixth Stone."

William Howard Taft-President of the United States and later Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Tom Taylor (b. October 15, 1987) is an American electronic gaming (video game) professional.

Louis "Studs" Terkel (May 16, 1912 – October 31, 2008) -- a well-known progressive American author, historian, actor, and broadcaster.

 Michael Layne Turner (April 21, 1971-June 27, 2008), was an American comic book artist best known for creating the graphically beautiful and alluring female characters, Witchblade and Fathom, which were both published by Top Cow comics.

Anna Walentynowicz: Polish Worker's Hero (August 13, 1929 - April 10, 2010) -Polish Worker's activist who played an important role in the Solidarity movement.
