Star Wars Timeline (Movies and TV only)
The Star Wars universe was born out of the mind of George Lucas in 1977 with the release of a movie called “Star Wars.” This science-fiction film was an instant hit, with compelling characters, amazing special effects, and a classic good vs. evil motif. Note that the actual name of the movie was Star Wars…not A New Hope. That came later, as what is now called the Prequel Trilogy formed in the late 1990s. George Lucas promised fans a trilogy of trilogies, with a total of nine Star Wars movies as his goal. It would take an acquisition by Disney and several decades to fulfill that promise.
So far (as of late 2023), the Star Wars universe on screen (TV and movies only) includes multiple movies, TV shows on Disney +, and several animated TV series. Keeping the in-universe timeline straight is almost a full-time job. Luckily, with the help of our friends at Screenrant and Gamesradar, we have built a Star Wars Timeline for your edification and education in the world of Sith and Jedi geekery.
