Sportshistory:
Golf
Golf is a game that can frustrate, anger,
embarass, and yes, even bring fulfilment, but it is a
sport that takes a lot of dedication, time, and money to
master. This page and the linked pages you will find
here, begin to examine the history of golf, the
personalities in golf today, as well as in the past, and,
you will also find some personal reminisces of the great
game of golf.
Below is a listing of Sportshistory pages, news,
and reviews dealing with the great game of
golf.

Resources, News, and Reviews:
There are many websites, books, and other resources
that discuss the game of golf. For example, this writer
took up golf some years ago. Looking into how to learn
the game, and how to not make a fool out of myself on the
links, I decided to go two main routes. First, I bought a
set of old clubs at a pawn shop (keeping expenses low,
just in case I tanked out), and paid for lessons from the
local golf pro at the municipal golf range. The lessons
helped, but I found that I was taking up too much time
during the golf lessons (and, as I recall now, many years
later I initially paid for ten lessons), I decided that I
needed to do some real homework on my own. To this end, I
borrowed a bunch of books on golf techniques, the history
of golf, and golfing basics, so that I would understand
the terminology of golfing as used by my golf pro
teacher. That helped quite a bit, but I had this pile of
old books laying around, (I did eventually return them to
the fellow from whom I borrowed them).
Now, keep in mind, this was back in the early 1990s,
not long before the internet really hit. If I were to
take up golf again, (and why I left that game is a whole
other post), I would go about my golfing education a bit
differently. First, I would use the internet to conduct
most of my research. Just a quick Google search of golf
techniques today led me to a website run by Neil
Haboush, who shares his thoughts on golf. Complete
with pictures, Haboush explains wrist techniques and
other points that explain how to golf. With so many
resources now available online, I could re-learn golf,
and hit the links. Now if only by sore back would allow
me to swing better
