Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow
The Black Widow from Marvel Comics
In the comic books published by Marvel in the 1960s, one of the more interesting characters introduced into the Avengers comics was that of Natasha Romanoff, a Soviet/Russian agent code-named "The Black Widow." The Black Widow in the comics went from a Cold War adversary to a trusted member of the Avengers and an agent of SHIELD. In the recent Marvel Studios movies, the Black Widow is an agent of SHIELD, a confidant of Nick Fury, and is a vibrant red-head played by the shapely Scarlett Johansson.Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow
In the movies produced by Marvel Studios, the Black Widow is an agent of SHIELD (and, as of 2012), her origin still unknown. Black Widow works for Nick Fury, the Director of SHIELD, and is first seen in Iron Man 2 as a covert agent implanted in Tony Stark's company. Her name is given as Natasha Romanoff, a Russian emigre who, in her role as The Black Widow, kicks bad-guy butt without equal (for a hero without super-powers). Scarlett Johansson reprised her Black Widow role in The Avengers movie released in May, 2012 in the United States.
