Game of Thrones is a television show on cable based on the popular "Fire and Ice" books written by author George R. R. Martin. In the books and the Game of Thrones series, the "Game of Thrones" of the title refers to the machinations of several noble and royal families for control over the kingdom of Westerors. These families include the Starks, Barratheons, Lannisters, Tullys, and of course, the deposed and exiled Targaryen family, of which only two scions remain at the start of the books and the series, Viserys Targaryen and his sister, Daenerys Targaryen.

While much of the intrigue and combat in Westeros involve the Starks, Lannisters, Barratheons and their followers, some of the more popular and notable plot lines involve Daenerys and the man to whom she is married off to, Khal Drogo.
