Popes
The
Pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, and
is, according to Catholic teaching, God's
representative on Earth. The list of popes begins with
St. Peter, one of the original Apostles of Jesus
Christ. Peter founded the Christian church in Rome in
the days of the pagan Roman Empire.
Pope Benedict the
XVI is the current
head of the Roman Catholic Church.
